The City of Thousand Oaks California, (or “T.O.” as it is called by locals) Thousand Oaks is the second-largest city in Ventura County. Thousand Oaks and Newbury Park were part of a master-planned city, created by the Janss Investment Company in the mid-1950s. It included about 1,000 custom home lots, 2,000 single-family residences, a regional shopping center, a 200-acre industrial park and several neighborhood shopping centers.
Location: The city of Thousand Oaks is situated in the Conejo Valley in southeastern Ventura County, halfway between Los Angeles and Santa Barbara, and 12 miles east of the Pacific Ocean. It is within the Greater Los Angeles Area and is 38 miles west of Los Angeles. Malibu is located on the other side of the Santa Monica Mountains. Conejo Valley is bordered by the Santa Monica's to the south, Conejo Mountains to the west and north, and the Simi Hills to the northeast
Schools:Thousand Oaks contains 37 primary and secondary schools. One of the best schools is Wildwood Elementary School, which has a rating of 10. The school has 414 students. The public schools in Thousand Oaks are part of Conejo Valley Unified School District or Ventura County Office of Education. The population of Thousand Oaks is 76,034; Conejo Valley Unified School District enrolls 27% of the population of Thousand Oaks.

Climate: The region experiences a hot-summer Mediterranean climate or dry-summer subtropical zone climate, with hot, sunny, dry summers and mild winters with moderate rainfall. The area has slightly cooler temperatures than the surrounding areas, as it receives cooler air from the ocean through various hill and mountain passes.
Recreation: With over 15,000 acres of open space, 140-miles of multi-use trails, there’s an abundance of recreation options in Thousand Oaks. From equestrian trails, to hiking, cycling, running, walking. One of the City’s finest parks is Wildwood Park, comprised of 1,825 acres of open space, 14 trails covering 17 miles, and two waterfalls that flow year-round.
Dining & Entertainment: Thousand Oaks has several shopping centers focused around the Janss Marketplace mall, The Oaks mall, and W. Thousand Oaks Blvd. In addition to retail and a luxury movie theater, there are numerous dining options to suit any occasion.
